1/15/10

Local time: 3:06 PM
Today's high: 56 degrees F

Today's highlight: It's Friday!  Party time!
Today's low: I don't know if I have homework to do or not.

Lesson learned: Don't ask what's in the stew or the soup.  It's better not to know.

Story: Going to church

On Wednesday I met up with a friend of Carol and Tyler's, Noemi, who is a part of an evangelical church here in Oviedo.  Joelle and I met Noemi at the Cathedral around 7:15 to go to the church for a service.  Because many people in Spain are Catholic, this church is almost a hole in the wall.  A little after we get to the church, a man starts reading scripture from Daniel, and begins giving a message.  Next we pray and apparently everyone can join in with our own concerns and such, because it's so small.  We also sang a couple of songs, one of which I recognized the tune, called "How Great is our God".  I sang the English version, and Joelle tried to mumble along to the Spanish version, but it was hard.  It would have been nice if we had had the lyrics so we could actually sing along.  After singing and praying again, the pastor hosted a study of Romans 5, which was interesting.  I didn't understand all of either message, but that didn't matter to me; I was just glad to have a church home here.

After the service, Noemi introduced Joelle and I to some other of her friends, and the pastor and his wife.  They both asked after Carol and Tyler.  Then Pastor Luis gave us each a schedule of what's going on in the next couple of weeks for college students.  Today Joelle and I are going to meet Noemi for a college student gathering.  Can't wait!  Will let you know what goes on!

Hasta la vista!

  1. The college youth group at the church sounds great. Good for you for pursuing that. Going to the church will be a great way for you to increase your Spanish listening skills. I love your comment about "better not to ask" about what is in the stew....cracked me up! You are doing great and sounds like everything is progressing well. Take care
